INSEC published Situation of Human Rights of Lumbini Province

The Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) has published the situation of  human rights in Lumbini Province for the first three months of 2024 (January to March) on April 29, 2024. The record shows that there were  327 females, one boy, 62 girls victims of human rights violations and abuses in Lumbini during this period. Similarly, 452 people including males, females and girls were victimized by others. Additionally 17 including seven females were killed.

Likewise, there were 12 victims of beating, two of violations against economic, social, and cultural rights, 23 incidents of inhumane treatment including six female victims, two individuals injured, five facing caste-based discrimination, one subjected to threats, and one experiencing torture.

Additionally, 62 were the victims of child rights violation and abuse. Among them, 42 were the victims of rape, five of trafficking, three of child marriage, and 11 were the victims of sexual abuse. Out of  327 females victims of violations Against Women, 28 were victims of rape, seven of attempted rape, three were victims of sexual abuse, 271 were victims of domestic violence, 12 were victims of polygamy and 6 were the victims of human trafficking.

The record shows that these incidents continue because the local government does not have a clear policy to control them and due to the fact necessary legal actions against the accused are not always taken. There is a need for the local government to make the judicial and security authorities strong and capable for the protection of human rights. Additionally, violence against women and children is increased due to unemployment. It is required to make citizens aware about their responsibilities.

Human rights activists have expressed their sadness over the fact that the journalists had to be victimized even by the local police administration for publishing news about their wrong deeds. In the same way, the victims of the armed conflict who have been fighting for their justice for years still have to  plead in front of the government with the hope of getting justice. In a nutshell, human rights in Lumbini province have not progressed much compared to the past.
