INSEC Online published a news article under the title of Lack of Citizenship Leaves Individual Deprived of Services on April 18, 2024. Subsequently, Nonjom Kami, 80, of Karmarong Rural Municipality-5, Sorong obtained his citizenship on 24 April.
Chairperson Dawa Sangwo Tamang of the Rural Municipality informed that initiatives to assist the victims in getting citizenship were taken after the publication of the news. He said that the recommendations from the local government and the police helped in coordinating with the District Administration Office to facilitate citizenship.
The Constituition of Nepal 2015, Part 2 (10) states that Not to be denied citizenship: (1) No Nepali citizen shall be denied the right to acquire citizenship. However, Nonjom Kami, 80, of Karmarong Rural Municipality-5, Sorong was deprived of citizenship. In Fact no one in his family had citizenship or birth certificate due to which they were deprived of the services provided by the nation.
Sonam Tamang Lama, a local resident, informed that they coordinated with the District Administration Office in the headquarters to help the victim in obtaining his citizenship after the news of his family being deprived of the services was published. Additionally, Nonjom Kami expressed his extreme happiness for obtaining citizenship after being deprived of government service facilities for a long time.
Chief District Officer Topendra KC informed that the family have now been provided citizenships by coordinating with the government and following all the necessary procedures.
