Ambalika Kumari Raya, 26, from Dakneshwari Municipality-4, Bhutahi Kusaha, filed a complaint at the Saptari District Court on March 31. She alleged that she was evicted by her father-in-law Jogindra Raya, 58, mother-in-law Umadevi Raya, 55, sister-in-law Rinakumari Raya, 35, and brother-in-law Ajit Kumar Rai, 30, accusing her of being bad luck.
The victim was married to Dhiraj Kumar Raya on April 17, 2022. The victim’s husband died in September, 2023 while she was staying at her parents’ home in Bhapatiyahi Rural Municipality, Madhubani, India.
The victim reported that following her husband’s death within five months of their marriage, she faced abuse and had her jewelry taken away by her in-laws. Her in-laws accused her of bringing bad luck and subsequently evicted her from their home. She was displaced and was staying at her parents’.
