Taslim Mansuri of Chinnamasta Rural Municipality-7, Barahi Birpur, 40, who had been evading after being charged with beating 40-year-old Kulsum Khatun on allegations of witchcraft, appeared in court on 27 March.
The Saptari District Court had sent Mansuri to Rajbiraj Jail for pre-trial detention. The victim’s husband, Murtuja Miya, filed a complaint at the District Police Office on January 7, 2022 alleging that she was beaten up by Taslim Mansuri, 41-year-old Mansuf Mansuri, 35-year-old Tahir Mansuri, 22-year-old Israel Mansuri, and 24-year-old Intaj Mansuri of the same place.
The victim had reported that she was called a witch and beaten by having her hair pulled brutally. The District Police Office registered a complaint regarding the incident on November 2, 2023. Other individuals accused in the case are currently absconding.
