Student Unions Vandalized Principal’s Office Over Fielding Non-University Players in Tournament

The students affiliated with various student unions vandalized the principal’s office in Tribhuvan University on January 4. This incident took place by allegation of sending fake athletes in the selection of the players from Bagmati Province for Prime Minister’s Cup Men’s National Cricket Tournament 2024.

The students belonging to ANNFSU , ANNISU (Revolutionary) and Socialist Students Union vandalized the principal’s office, alleging that the Bagmati Province Cricket Association had sent a team of fake players on behalf of Tribhuvan University to the Prime Minister’s Cup Men’s National Cricket Tournament. The tournament is going to be held in the third week of January. The Principal’s Office of the University recommended the list of 18 players, one manager and two coaches to the Bagmati Province Cricket Association to participate in the selection tournament on January 3, 2024.

SP Kumod Dhungel, the spokesperson of the District Police Complex in Kathmandu, reported that the glass table and the documents in the Principal Dhyanendra Bahadur Rai’s office were broken. The students accused the President of the Free Students’ Union of Tribhuvan University for sending players who were not university students to the tournament. SP Dhungel informed INSEC that the team of Police Circle, Kirtipur is investigating the incident.
