Police arrested 55-year-old Sher Bahadur KC of Ghorahi Sub-municipal-5 on November 11 on the charge of killing 28-year-old Jugaru Chaudhary of Ghorahi Sub-Municipality-7, an armed policeman working for the security of the District Jail Office.
The aggrieved party filed a complaint at the District Police Office on November 10 alleging that Chaudhary, who had gone home on Tihar holiday, was shot and killed with a loaded gun on November 9.
DSP Janak Bahadur Malla of the District Police Office said that the police arrested the accused from his house with one gun and 175 lead bullets.
Chaudhary, who had gone to pick maluka leaves alongside local community members in the Janasewa community forest situated in Ghorahi sub-municipality-5, was discovered deceased within the forest. Subsequently, the police arrested 14 individuals who had accompanied Chaudhary to pick maluka leaves.
Sher Bahadur was apprehended in possession of a firearm, while the remaining 14 individuals were released on November 11. The accused stated during interrogation that he had discharged the firearm, mistakenly assuming the victim to be a monkey while engaged in a hunting activity.
The body has been kept at Rapti Institute of Health Sciences Ghorahi for post-mortem.
Khopiram Chaudhary, Chairperson of Ghorahi sub-municipality-7, informed that the post-mortem was delayed due to the delay in the arrival of the doctor due to the festive season.
