Driver Accused of Threatening to Kill Journalist Arrested 

The police arrested Sujan Shrestha, a driver on November 8 for threatening to kill 26-year-old Sabin Lamichhane, an active journalist from Tanahun, on November 7.

The Tanahun branch of the Nepal Journalist Federation has protested against the incident. The federation issued a statement on November 8 against the incident  and demanded action against the accused.

The Federation of Journalists Tanahun reported that the driver of bus No. Ga 1 J 7505, operating on Sindhu Marga from Damauli to Byas Municipality-6, went to journalist Lamichhane’s house and allegedly threatened his parents and issued death threats to the journalist.

Lamichhane, a news reporter of Online Khabar.com and Public 4K Television, published news about the vehicle violating traffic rules and carrying more passengers than its capacity.

Pratap Rana, Secretary of the Federation of Journalists, Tanahun Branch, issued a statement demanding the administration to investigate the incident thoroughly and take legal action against the culprits. In addition, the statement called for the protection of journalist Lamichhane and his family’s lives.

The police under the direction of Chabilal Rijal, CDO of Tanahun, arrested the accused after Lamichhane reported the incident to the District Administration Office.

Lamichhane stated that after the accused apologized to his parents and provided a written promise not to repeat such an incident on November 8, an agreement was reached between the two parties.
