The District Administration Office has imposed an indefinite curfew order in Nepalgunj, Banke, effective from 1:00 PM on October 2.
In the curfew order issued by Bipin Acharya the Chief District Officer , curfew has been imposed in the areas within Rapti bridge in the east, Indrapur junction of Khajura Road in the west, Ranjha Chowk in the north and Jamunah border in the south.
The curfew order was issued in accordance with section 6 (1) (a) (3) of the Local Administration Act 1971.
A protest rally was organized by the Muslim community on October 1 in response to derogatory content targeting their community that was posted on the social network Facebook. During a demonstration organized by the Hindu Omkar Society on October 3, near Bipichok in Nepalgunj sub-metropolis, incidents of vandalism of public property occurred, leading to a dispute between youths from the Muslim and Hindu communities.
Some security personnel and protesters were injured during the clash. The police used tear gas and aerial fire to bring the situation under control.
