42-year-old Shankar Sharma, a resident of Rajviraj Municipality-6, Purni Pokhari Toll, has been sentenced to life imprisonment on August 27 for the murder of 41-year-old Sonita Devi Yadav. Sonita Devi Yadav resided in Balan Bihul Rural Municipality-5, Ramnagar, and also lived in Rajviraj Municipality-4, Bajrang Chowk.
The verdict was delivered by District Judge Hemant Rawal’s bench, which found the accused guilty of the crime. The accused had been in pre-trial detention and was sentenced to life imprisonment. According to the order issued by Judge Rawal, the accused had been in custody at Rajviraj Jail since June 4.
The incident had been reported on May 8, when Shailendra Yadav, the father-in-law of the deceased, filed a complaint at the district police office. He alleged that the accused had raped and murdered Sonita Devi Yadav on May 7. The district police office initiated an investigation based on the complaint, and a charge sheet was filed in the district court on June 1.
The victim’s body was discovered on the evening of May 7 at the residence of Surendra Sah. The postmortem examination of the body was conducted on May 8 at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital. The accused was subsequently arrested on May 8.
