22 Including Aarti Sah’s Parents Arrested From Singha Durbar South Gate

Demanding a thorough investigation into the incident involving the alleged killing of Aarti Sah over dowry-related issues, a group of individuals has been observing a hunger strike since June 16, situated initially at Maitighar and then subsequently moving to the south gate of Sinha Durbar on August 14. Among these individuals, 47-year-old Binod Prasad Saha and 22 others were apprehended by the police on August 14 at the south gate of Singha Durbar.

The relatives of the deceased, Aarti, who have been participating in a relay hunger strike for the past 60 days at Maitighar, escalated their protest to the south gate of Singha Durbar due to perceived inaction from the government in addressing their demands.

The police arrested several individuals, including Binod Prasad Sah, Nirmala Devi Sah, Manisha Sah, Prem Sah, Prabhat Kumar Lahera, Bikrant Thakur, Purushottam Mahato, Jayaprakash Yadav, Bikas Yadav, Afzal Sheikh, Gautam Utkarsh, Akash Mahato, Shiva Yadav, Chunamani Yadav, Raju Kumar Mahato, Madhav Bhumihar, Tilak Sah, Rahul Yadav, Dhirendra Yadav, Raju Sah, Ramesh Yadav, and Dipesh Sarraf, at the south gate of Singha Durbar.

SP Kumod Dhungel of the District Police Complex in Kathmandu informed INSEC that those arrested were detained at the Police Circle, Singha Durbar, for a period of three hours.
