On August 8, 2023, a 16-year-old girl was successfully rescued from Punjab, India, and repatriated to Nepal. Hailing from Kanchanpur district, the girl had left for Punjab in November 2022 without informing her family, enticed by the promise of employment. She was eventually rescued by the Peace Restoration Home organization and subsequently handed over to the Kanchanpur District Police Office on August 9.
Coordinator Basanti conveyed that the rescue operation was carried out in collaboration with Monika Baral from the Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Manch in India. The girl had been employed in a hotel in Ludhiana, where she was located and rescued.
The girl, who had been reported missing since November, reconnected with her family on June 14, 2023. Given their challenging financial circumstances, the family sought assistance from various organizations to facilitate her safe return home.
Law enforcement authorities indicated that arrangements are underway to reunite the girl with her family. Concurrently, an ongoing investigation is being conducted to ascertain the details surrounding her journey to India.
