The Supreme Court has revoked the interim order given against the implementation of the Citizenship Bill approved by President Ramchandra Paudel on May 31, 2023.
The joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Kumar Regmi, on June 22, 2008, revoked the interim order filed by senior advocate Dr. Surendra Bhandari and Balkrishna Neupane. The decision allows the implementation of the bill.
The Citizenship Bill passed by the Parliament during the previous term of the House of Representatives was amended and sent back to the House of Representatives by the then President Bidya Devi Bhandari for submission. The House of Representatives passed the bill without any changes and presented it for approval by the President. President Bhandari refused to approve again on September 1, 2021. The Bill was later approved by President Ramchandra Paudel.
