Police Arrest Protestors Affiliated to Citizenship Deprived Struggle Committee

The police arrested 11 protestors affiliated with the Citizenship Deprived Struggle Committee who demonstrated in front of the gate of the Supreme Court, on June 20, 2023, demanding citizenship rights.

The protestors who were protesting in Maitighar Mandla tried to enter the Supreme Court and the police arrested them saying that they were protesting in a prohibited area.

Among those arrested by the police are Ashish Poddar, 25, of Morang,  Mahaveer Ram, 40, of Kathmandu, Uttam Prasad Shah, 35, of Siraha, Rohit Shah, 22, of Dhanusha, Suhani Khan, 26, of Bhaktapur, Adarsh Baniyan, 24, of Tanahun, Ashdev Yadav, 25, of Bara, Akash, 28, of Chitwan. Khan, Zakir Hussain, 35, of Bara, MD Raj Ali, 24, of Kathmandu, Binod Baniyan, 22, of Kathmandu.

Spokesman SP Sitaram Rizal informed that those who were arrested were detained at the City Police Office Bhrikutimandap.

Individuals deprived of citizenship, through the formation of a struggle committee,  have been protesting in Maitighar Mandla for the past two weeks. They have been protesting against the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend the immediate implementation of the Citizenship Bill approved by President Ramchandra Paudel on May 31, 2023.
