Prem Chalauney Arrested During Sit-in Protest

The police arrested Tribhuvan University Vice-Professor Prem Chalauney, during a sit-in protest at the District Court, against the decision of the Council of Ministers to withdraw the case pending in the court against individuals who attacked him.

Seven people including the then Chairperson of the University Committee of the Nepal Student Union, Hari Acharya, Secretary Yogendra Rawal, Rupesh Shah, and Niraj Lama, physically assaulted Chalauney, on October 6, 2020.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held, on June 13, 2023, decided to withdraw the case of attempted killing, filed by Chalauney against the assailant.

The case filed by the driver will be heard in the district court on June 20.

SP Sitaram Rizal, Spokesperson of District Police Complex Kathmandu, said that the police team arrested him after he started shouting slogans during his sit-in protest. The police detained him at Police Circle Singhadaebar.
