Victims of meter-interest have demonstrated a human rights march, on April 19, 2023, from Shantibatika to Newbaneshwor, against the use of force by the police during the protest.
During the protest on April 17, the police halted the protest with use of force, with the use of force, at Shantibatika.
Addressing the meeting held after the march, rights activist Narayan Wagle said that the police, instead of protecting the citizens, used force against the meter-interest victims while protesting for justice. This act is a serious violation of human rights.
The police not only used physical violence against the detained protestors at Mahendra Police Club but also detained the individuals in need of medical care for a whole day without access to health care.
Similarly, activist Manoj Khatiwada, a victim of meter interest, said that the police used brutal force when the citizens tried to exercise their constitutional right to protest. Khatiwada said that more than 20 of his colleagues were injured due to police beating.
Activist Nirgh Navin, who was injured in the clash with the police, said that when the meter-interest victims were about to leave Shantibatika for a peaceful protest, the police repressed them and used batons on them and physically assaulted women protestors.
