Update of Province 1, Election of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly 2022

According to Ganesh Bista, Bhojpur District representative, Suman Shrestha, from Arun Rural Municipality-4, Charambi, has been injured in the bomb blast carried by himself. The incident occurred in the election assembly conducted by the party alliance in Paudunga Rural Municipality-2, Tiwari Bhanjyang in November 16, 2022. Sarad Thapa, DSP of the district police office informed that injured Shrestha has been taken into custody for further investigation. The injured in being treated in the local health post, Tiwari Bhanjyang.  

Although the police pointed out that the Biplav cadres carried the bomb themselves, Pushpa Bahadur Koirala, a central member of Biplav, informed them that they wouldn’t do so. As per him, even though the party has adopted a policy of boycotting the elections, they aren’t willing to spread terror by detonating bombs and clarified that their party is not involved in the incident.

 According to Sankhuwasabha district representative Bhawin Karki, the election commission has asked for an explanation pursuant to section 10 of the election code of conduct 2022. Bishnu Bhandari, Principal of Panchkanya Primary School Okhre, Dharmadevi Municipality-3 on November 10 in regard to his action of campaigning for the alliance candidate through Facebook.  

According to Jhapa district representative Naresh Khati, supporters of Hari Kumar Rana, alliance candidate for house of representative from election constituency no.2 and Khagendra Mainali, candidate for Provincial Assembly ‘b’ were spotted campaigning contrary to the election code of conduct using big banner and microphone.  

According to Panchthar district representative Sahaman Biswakarma, a big banner demanding vote in favour of the candidate for the House of Representatives Bhishmaraj Angdambe and the member of the Provincial Assembly Kamal Prasad Jawegu was placed on the compound wall of Balkiran English Boarding School located in Phidim Municipality-1, contrary to the election code of conduct. 

 According to Sunsari District Representative Jaykrishna Yadav, the Election Commission has rejected the candidature of Santosh Kumar Mehta, the candidate from the Democratic Socialist Party pursuant to Section 13 (f) of the Provincial Assembly Member Election Act 2017. His candidature has been rejected owing to the fact that he is yet to receive a clean cheat for the offence of polygamy.  

Following the cancellation, the Commission has also instructed the concerned election officer to automatically cancel the votes that are cast on his favour, as it is not feasible to print new ballot paper because of the time constraint.
