Violation of Code of Conduct by Political Parties in their Campaigning

Political parties are conducting election campaigns actively against the Election Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission.

Bhupendra Bahadur Thing, the Chairperson of the Nepal Bar Association, said that the election propaganda is being spread in violation of (J) under paragraph 2 of the Election Code of Conduct 2079 issued by the Election Commission.

In paragraph 2 of the Code of Conduct, it is stated in “J” that “it is said that party items, party or candidate’s election symbol shall not be kept or displayed in any private house or public building, public building, public road, pole or any public place”.

But the Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist Centre, Samajwadi Party and CPN UML, which are active in the alliance in the district, are carrying out an election campaign against the code of conduct by placing Tul banner flags in various public places and intersections of the district.

Chief of the District Election Office Bikash Rijal said that the failure to initiate the process of action on the cases of violations of the Code of Conduct by the parties is the weakness of the Code of Conduct District Monitoring Committee.
