The Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City- 17 has instructed the Principal of Gyansagar Secondary School to admit nine girls of the age group of 14 to 18 years after the initiative of human rights activists including INSEC. Those girls were initially denied admission for being drop outs.
Human rights activists coordinated with INSEC on July 19, and discussed the issue with the Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan Prashant Bista and Education Branch Chief Gorkha Bahadur Thapa. The activists had asked them to ensure the right to education of those girls.
Fatima Foundation submitted a petition to INSEC Nepalgunj on July 15, regarding the refusal of Gyansagar Secondary School to admit those dropout students.
Maimuna Siddiqui, Chairperson of Fatima Foundation, said that although they have tried several times to enrol those girls in school under the Child Marriage Prevention Project of Fatima Foundation, the school has not admitted them.

Sarita Verma, Social Mobilizer of the Project, said that the teachers insulted those students for joining the school after being in the age of marriage and asked them to manage physical resources, and teachers so that they can be admitted in the school.
Mayor Bista had immediately contacted Gyansagar Secondary School’s Principal Nanda Neupane and had instructed her to admit the girls within July 26. He also committed to visit the school on July 30 to monitor the problems of the school.
Mayor Bista urged stakeholders to form a committee to monitor education, health and sanitation.
After the initiative of INSEC, Senior Advocate Sunil Shrestha, INSEC Provincial Coordinator Bhola Mahat, Chairperson of Fatima Foundation Maimuna Siddiqui, Advocates Bishwajit Tiwari, Basant Gautam, Siddaraj Paneru of CWIN Nepal and INSEC Representative Lakshmi Tharu had met and discussed on the issue.
