National Human Rights Commission Bagmati Province Office has held a discussion program in the context of World Day for International Justice.
In the discussion, the Commission’s Bagmati Province Office Chief Yagya Prasad Adhikari and Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC)’s Bagmati Province Office Coordinator Krishna Gautam discussed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and the current Nepali Criminal Law.
Adhikari added that it is necessary for Nepal to become a party to the Statute of the International Criminal Court in order to complete the transitional justice.
The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court was established for ratification on July 17, 1998. This day is celebrated as World Day for International Justice.
This statute has been ratified by 123 nations of the world. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the Maldives from South Asia along with nineteen countries of Asia, have joined the Rome Statute.
However, Nepal is not a party state to the statute and hence the stakeholders should be concerned about it, said Krishna Gautam.
He further added that human rights activists have been raising their voices for a long time to address transitional justice.
