A team of the District Police Office, Ramechhap has arrested Ramji Basnet, 35, of Gokulganga Rural Municipality-2, Ramechhap who had absconded after sexually abusing students living in the hostel of Sarbanam School in Jorpati. He was arrested on June 4, 2022.
The parents and guardians of the school had staged a protest on June 4 portraying their rage towards the school administration which did not take action against the teacher even after knowing that he had been sexually abusing the students of Grade 7,8 and 10 who had been living in the school hostel. The protest also demanded a proper investigation into the incident.
The accused Basnet had fled to Manthali, Ramechhap, on June 4, after knowing that his acts were exposed to the incident.
On June 4, three students had lodged a complaint at Metropolitan Police Circle, Boudhha, under the supervision of their parents. The victims stated that the accused had repeatedly touched them in a bad way on their sensitive parts, whenever he found them alone.
After receiving information about the incident, the team of Metropolitan Police Circle Bouddha, arrested the school’s principal Durganath Siwakoti and his wife.
DSP Dhundi Raj Neupane of Police Circle Boudha told INSEC that the accused was arrested with the help of the District Police Office, Ramechhap and brought to Kathmandu on the night of June 4.
The health examination of the victims was conducted at Prasuti Griha, Thapathali on June 4.
