A clash initiated between the police and the nationalist youth group at Birendra Chowk of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan-1 on June 2, 2022, after the statue of former King Birendra was removed by the police.
The police informed nine policemen were injured in the clash and four protestors were arrested, police said.
After the police removed the statue, the nationalist youth group vandalized the statue of Martyr Setu BK located at New Road.
DSP Madhusudan Neupane of the District Police Office informed that the police had to open fire for five rounds after the situation got out of control.
Immediately after the incident, Nepalgunj’s Deputy Mayor Prashant Bista and Deputy Mayor Kamaruddin Rai reached the spot and requested not to disturb the social harmony in Nepalgunj.
The names of the injured and those arrested have not been made public by the police.
