A team of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested Manoj Pandey, 45, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10 on May 20 on the charge of sexually harassing a 16-year-old girl eight years ago.
Chief Inspector Sapana Khadka informed that a contestant in the Miss Global International pageant in 2014, was sexually harassed by Pandey at a hotel for a success party and raped her. Pandey is also alleged of blackmailing and sexually abusing her for six months.
After the incident became public, a team including SSP Basanta Kunwar approached the victim and the issue was raised in the Parliament on May 16. Speaker of the House, Agni Prasad Sapkota ruled that the government should investigate the incident of heinous crime like violence against women.
Following the Speaker’s directive, the Ministry formed a five-member investigation committee headed by SSP Basanta Kunwar of the Crime Branch.
Similarly, the Police Office has formed a four-member investigation committee headed by SP Krishna Koirala comprising DSPs Kopila Chudal and Hari Basnet and Inspector Sapana Khadka.
The committee has started investigation into the incident from May 16, said Inspector Khadka.
