Twenty-seven labourers of the Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality-2 have filed a complaint at the District Police Office alleging of being deceived in remuneration of the Prime Minister’s Self Employment Program. The complaint was filed on July 8, 2021.
Under the Prime Minister’s Self Employment Program, 47 individuals of the wards were employed for 100 days.
According to the victims, they came to seek justice after a local of the ward, Lal Bahadur Karki, 50, extorted money from the labourers. He had extorted NRs 7,000 to NRs 22,000 from the 27 labourers.
The labourers working under the Prime Minister Self Employment Program were called at Mega Bank in Sandhbhanjyang on July 1, 2021, for their remuneration. Their wages were paid via cheque. But the victims have alleged that Karki extorted money from 27 workers in the premises of the bank after they withdrew the cash.
Some of the workers denied giving money to Karki after which they had lodged a complaint at the rural municipality office on the same day.
Rama Shrestha said they received a death threat after filing the complaint therefore they visited the District Police Office for security as well.
Executive member Gyanu Pariyar said that even she received a death threat after she supported the victims for justice.
According to the policy of the government, the participant of the Prime Minister’s Self Employment Program would work for 100 days and receive NRs. 517 per day.
Mahendra Khadka, SP of the District Police Office, said that a complaint was filed demanding action against a person named Lal Bahadur for extorting money from them.
