Police have arrested Ishwar Nepali, 31, a leader of Caste System Abolition Front Nepal, Gandaki Province and Netra Chapagain, 34, and Resham Sapkota, 32, cadres of People’s Socialist Party on June 29, 2021, during a protest against caste-based discrimination at Pokhara Metropolitan City-4 Manavadhikar Chowk.
The protest was caused alleging the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Krishna Gopal Shrestha, who is also responsible for four other ministries of the Government of Nepal for supporting the accused of caste-based discrimination. According to DSP Subash Hamal of the District Police Office, Kaski, they were arrested while burning the effigy of Minister Shrestha during the protest.
DSP Hamal informed INSEC representative that they were kept at District Police Office Kaski after the arrest.
Saraswati Pradhan of Kathmandu Metropolitan-11, Babarmahal was arrested for refusing to rent a flat to Journalist Rupa Sunar because of her caste. A picture of Minster Shrestha with accused Pradhan during her bail was released in social networking sites on June 23.
