Police have arrested Rohit Kumar Yadav, 19, of Dakneshwari Municipality-3 on June 21, 2021, on the charges of raping and killing nine-year-old Shiwani Kumari Yadav.
Following the statement of the accused, police have arrested Raju Yadav, 19, of the same place on June 21 for further investigation into the incident.
It has been revealed that Rohit is the main accused in the murder and further investigation is underway on the suspicion that there may be other conspirators in the murder, informed the police.
The body of the girl was found in Shivnath Yadav’s Mango yard in Hatel Puwariya Tole on June 18. The deceased throat was slit by a sickle.
The post-mortem of the body was conducted at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan on June 18, said Inspector Udayabhan Dwibedi of the District Police Office, Saptari.
According to the deceased’s family members, Shiwani had sent her five-year-old sister home after it started drizzling.
In the police’s initial investigation, it was discovered that Shiwani had gone 800 meters northeast of her house to pick up the mangoes that had fallen on the ground due to the wind when it started drizzling. She had sent back her sister.
Simultaneously the accused Rohit had lured the girl with mangoes and raped her after he found her alone. According to SP Rajendra Prasad Dhamala of the District Police Office, the accused had confessed that he had killed the girl by slitting her throat with a sickle.
A team of SP Dhamla, Inspector Uma Shankar Prasad Sah of Area Police Office Kalyanpur and Inspector Birendra Kumar Paswan of Kadarbona has reached the spot after the incident.
The complaint was filed on June 18, 2021, at the District Police Office.
For technical investigation, the investigation team had reached the spot with the help of Province 2 Police Office Janakpur and Federal Police Unit Office Janakpur and trained dogs.
