Relief Distributed in Chepang Settlement After Publication of News

Relief has been distributed in the Chepang settlement of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-8, which has been suffering from extreme famine for the past three months.

After the news about the famine was published, rice, lentils, salt, and oil were distributed in the village on the initiative of Captain Ramesh Shrestha of Yeti Airlines.

Chairperson of the Nepal Chepang Association Dhading Bhim Bahadur Chepang, Ward Chairperson Bir Bahadur Shrestha and others distributed relief and thanked the local government for distributing food in the Chepang village.

The major occupation of the people of this village is labour work which has been suspended due to prohibitory order. According to Bhim Bahadur Chepang, Chairperson of the Chepang Association, Dhading, the villagers used to eat a meal in three or four days as there was no food at their homes due to the prohibition order.

Due to the lack of food, most of the people of this community go to the forest looking for food, some of them are forced to fish in the river, some of them are compelled to pick up plants from the forest for their survival.

After reading the news, the supporters collected food and brought it to the village for distribution, said, Captain Shrestha.

Hari Dallakoti, the chairperson of the rural municipality, said that the municipality had distributed rice to all the Chepang families during the prohibition period last year though this year, there is no such plan but individuals have collected food for the Chepangs of the village.
