Inmates of District Prison, Sankhuwasabha have complained that they are facing problems due to a lack of sufficient water supply even though the place requires 15,000 litres of water supply for daily utilities.
Guard Parshuram Rai said that the problem was because only 6,000 litres of water was supplied to the place which is less than half the need. He added, there were 133 inmates and the water comes only for two hours daily.
Dev Gurung, an inmate said that they were facing problem in bathing, washing clothes and sanitation due to lack of water.
Prisoner Binod Adhikari said that the inmates were suffering as the water was supplied for only two hours daily.
Despite informing the Chief District Officer Teknarayan Poudel and Khandbari Municipality about the shortage of water in the prison, the supply was not managed properly.
Murari Khatiwada, mayor of Khandbari municipality, said that tanks needed to store the water would be provided soon.
According to the jailor, 15 tankers of water were brought from Sabhakhola after March 2021 due to a shortage of water.
Although the prison has a capacity of 25 inmates, it currently has more than five times its. There are 123 male and 10 female inmates in the prison.
