Seven policemen and a man were injured when a group of local youths clashed with the police on September 3 while pulling Rato Matsyendra Nath’s chariot in violation of the prohibition imposed by the local administration for controlling and preventing the transmission of coronavirus in Pulchowk, Lalitpur.
According to DSP Santosh Tamang, Assistant Spokesperson of the Metropolitan Police Range, Jawalakhel, Inspector Ramesh Kumar Shrestha was injured while police constables Porney Lis Mistry and Surya Basnet were injured.
Similarly, police constable Kamal Prasad Ghimire’s hand, leg, back and head were injured while police constables Bijay Kant Chaudhary, Ashok Banjara and Amrit Khadka sustained minor injuries. Shyam Sundar Shrestha of Patan was seriously injured in the clash.
Among the injured, Traffic Policeman Kamal Prasad Ghimire and a local Shyam Sundar Shrestha are undergoing treatment at Patan Hospital. All the other injured have been discharged after normal treatment at Alka Hospital, said Alka Hospital Information Officer Prakash Sharma.

Kamal Prasad Ghimire, a traffic policeman on duty, was beaten by a group of youths amidst the pandemic of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). He has injuries on his head and back.
Immediately, Lalitpur’s Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhat had instructed the Metropolitan Police Range to stop the procession. Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Shyam Sundar Shrestha was injured in the incident.
