Chinese Citizen Arrested For Entering the Prohibited Area

Police have arrested 47 Chinese citizens who protested the prohibited area and demonstrated on 8 May 2020. They are in the Metropolitan Police Office.

These demonstrators were stuck in Nepal after the government declared lockdown to prevent and control the transmission of Covid-19. They had demonstrated in the prohibited area of Singha Durbar, demanding to let them go back to their country.

In the demonstration, there was a clash between the police and the Chinese citizens. Three Chinese and one policeman were injured in the clash.

Injured DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet was treated in the Police Hospital of Maharajgung while the Chinese were not treated.

According to SSP Shyam Gyawali, the police denied their entry in the prohibited area after which there was a clash. They had been visiting the Chinese Embassy and asking for their return.

Many Chinese are stranded here due to the lockdown. The Embassy has sent some by chartering an airplane but some are still stuck in Nepal.
