Due to the uprising risk of COVID-19, the District Administration Office of Jhapa has decided to implement district-wide prohibitory order to control and minimize the risk of COVID-19.
According to the Chief District Officer and Coordinator of the District COVID Crisis Management Centre (DCCMC) Shrawan Kumar Timalsina, the district-wide prohibitory order has been implemented to break the chain of COVID-19. The decision was taken in accordance with the Infectious Diseases Act, 2020’s Article 2 and Local Administration Act, 2028- Article 6’s Sub-Article 3. The meeting of the DCCMC held on July 29, 2021, had decided to implement the prohibitory order to reduce the risk of the third wave of COVID-19, informed Timalsina. The local levels have been instructed to prepare for the COVID-19 response.
Earlier, the Kankai Municipality was sealed from July 23. Damak and Shivasatakshi Municipalities were sealed from July 26. Buddhashanti Rural Municipality, Arjundhara Municipality, Damak Municipality, Birtamod Municipality, Mechinagar Municipality, Haldibari Rural Municipality, Kamal Rural Municipality, and Gauradaha Municipality have already been sealed. Deputy Mayor of Mechinagar Municipality, Meena Upreti said that the scope of PCR and antigen testing would be increased considering the increasing rate of Covid-19 infection. She further added that it has been decided to move ahead with the procurement process of essential safety equipment and medicines before the third wave of COVID-19. Also, all the non-essential services provided by Mechinagar Municipality, Municipal Executive Office, Ward Offices, and Subordinate Offices will be suspended, and all the security agencies are requested to oversee its implementation.
Bhadrapur Municipality, Gaurigunj Rural Municipality, Bahradashi Rural Municipality, Jhapa Rural Municipality, and Kachankawal Rural Municipality have not been sealed till July 30. The infection rate of Covid-19 has increased in Jhapa in the last two weeks. More than 200 people are being diagnosed positive with COVID-19 on a daily basis.
