The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has shown serious concern over the incident of the beating of health workers and vandalism at the Bheri Hospital in Banke.
According to the Commission, the Lumbini Provincial Branch Office of the Commission, Nepalgunj, monitored the incident on May 28, 2021.
The relatives of the deceased had beaten up the health workers and vandalized the Covid treatment room of the hospital on May 27, informed the commission.
The commission said four health workers had to escape the scene to save their lives after the accused started attacking the doctors and nurses.
The commission has drawn the attention of the government to bring the perpetrators to the frame of justice by investigating the incidents of beatings and hospital vandalism which is against the health workers who work at the forefront during the pandemic of COVID-19.
In a press statement, the commission has urged to conduct a speedy and effective investigation into the incident as it would have a negative impact on the morale and reputation of the health workers who have to work with motivation in the situation of crisis.
The commission has drawn the attention of the government to ensure that such acts are not repeated and that in this critical situation of the pandemic, essential services like health are not disrupted in any way.
