Prithvi Subba Gurung has been reappointed as Chief Minister (CM) of Gandaki Province on May 12, 2021.
The Governor of Gandaki Province, Sita Paudel appointed Prithvi Subba Gurung, the parliamentary party leader of the CPN-UML, as the province’s chief minister.
Opposition parties Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist, Janata Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janamorcha had filed a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Gurung on April 15, 2021.
Gurung had resigned from the same position on May 9 and following that, the province Governor had given the parties of the Provincial Assembly a chance to secure a majority in the 60-member assembly to claim the position in the next three days.
After the opposition failed to submit the majority within the time limit as per Article 168 (2) of the constitution, the governor re-appointed Gurung as the Chief Minister.
Gurung has to prove the majority support in the next 30 days.
Speaker Netranath Adhikari, Deputy Speaker Srijana Sharma, UML Parliamentary Party Whip Mayanath Adhikari, and Chief Justice of the High Court were present at the oath-taking ceremony.
Immediately after the ceremony, Gurung declared the decision to contribute Rs 40 million on behalf of the government to the COVID fund established by the government of Gandaki Province.
