Police have arrested three people on September 21 in accusation of taking a 17-year-old girl to India for trafficking.
Sumit Kumar Mandal, 28, of Bishnupur Rural Municipality-5, Pradip Kumar Mandal, 20, of Tilathikoiladi Rural Municipality-1 and Manika Dhakhal (22) of Letang Municipality-3, were arrested from Jogbani border, informed Santosh Khadka of the District Police Office in a phone call with INSEC representative.
According to the police, the accused tried to take the 17-year-old girl to India via Biratnagar Metropolitan City-17 Islampur under the Nepal-India border. According to SP Khadka, the girl was rescued from the border area with the help of an organization called Small Hands.
According to Bivas Shrestha, Morang Coordinator of Small Hands, the frightened girl jumped out of the vehicle and fled after they tried to take her to Farvisgunj.
According to the police, it has been revealed that Sumit’s nephew Randhir Mandal lives in Jhitkiya of Saharsha district of India and works as a construction contractor. It has been revealed from the initial police investigation that Sumit tried to take the girl to India by contacting his brother-in-law and his brother Virendra Mandal. It has been revealed that a deal of Rs. 1,200,000 was made with them in exchange of the girl.
According to SP Khadka, the investigation into the incident has been started by extending the time limit on September 22 to file a case against the three arrested as per the Human Trafficking and Smuggling Control Act, 2064 BS.
