Police arrested 27 individuals in Dang on charges of vandalizing and setting fire to government offices during the Gen Z protest. During the Gen Z protest on 9 September, several government offices, including police stations and courts, were reportedly vandalized, set on fire, and looted. According to SP Dipak Shrestha, Chief of Dang District Police Office, the Dang police had arrested 27 people in connection with these incidents as of 20 November. Among those arrested, cases have already been filed against seven individuals.
According to the police, among the arrested, 12 were arrested for damaging and setting fire to the District Traffic Office, two for arson at the Narayanpur Area Police Office, three for vandalizing and setting fire to the District Court, two for vandalizing and setting fire to the District Attorney’s Office, one for damaging the police post at Bhanuchowk in Ghorahi, four for vandalizing and setting fire to the Tulsipur Bus Park Police Post, and three for vandalizing the High Court office in Tulsipur.
The police have stated that the investigation into the incidents is still ongoing. According to SP Dipak Shrestha, a team led by a police inspector has been deployed to identify those responsible for the vandalism and arson in Dang. The damage to government offices in Dang due to the arson and vandalism has been estimated at Rs 1,11,00,00,000.
