Among those who lost their lives during the Gen-Z movement, the government declared 45 people as martyrs on November 3, 2025, of which three are from Madhesh Province.
Among the declared martyrs are Ashav Alam Thakurai, 24 from Birganj Metropolitan City–12, Parsa District, Vijay Chaudhary, 26 from Lahan Municipality–15, Siraha District; and Devkumar Suvedi, 31 from Lalbandi Municipality–5, Sarlahi District.
During the Gen-Z movement, Thakurai was killed by police gunfire during a protest in Baneswhor on September 8. Chaudhary, who was injured by police gunfire during the protest in Baneswhor on the same day, died during treatment the next day. Similarly, Suvedi was killed by police gunfire during the protest in Kalimati on September 8.
The Gen-Z had protested on September 8 and 9 demanding national interest, good governance, and corruption control. During the protests, three people from Madhesh Province, one each from Parsa, Siraha, and Sarlahi lost their lives.
“Based on studies from the committee under the Ministry of Home Affairs, other security agencies, and the District Administration Office, 45 individuals have been declared martyrs,” stated Communications Minister Jagdish Kharel.
