Heavy Rain Shuts Schools in Dhankuta, Sunsari, Landslides Block Koshi Roads

After the impact of Cyclone Montha, in various districts of Koshi Province, schools have been closed and the roads blocked due to landslides.

Due to heavy rainfall and landslides, several roads have been obstructed, causing problems for the operation of ambulances and other vehicles.

The disruption of ambulance and vehicle services has created difficulties for patients and the general public.

Following heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Montha, Pakhribas Municipality of Dhankuta has requested schools to remain closed for three days.

Pakhribas Municipality issued a public notice announcing the closure of both community and private schools until November 2.

As road infrastructure was submerged by excessive rain, Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City in Sunsari granted leave to community and private schools until October 31.

Under the influence of Cyclone Montha, most districts of Koshi Province are witnessing continuous rainfall. Due to heavy downpours, the District Administration Office, Ilam, has completely banned vehicle movement along the Mechi Highway and alternative roads.

Sections of the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam are collapsing, sinking, and cracking. Similarly, the Tilkeni–Simlagola–Shilpur alternative road has also been blocked by landslides.

The District Administration Office has imposed a complete ban on vehicle movement along the Mechi Highway from October 30 until further notice.

Cracks and subsidence along various sections of the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali, Ilam Municipality–9, have raised serious risks of landslides, blocking the road on both sides. The internal alternative road connecting Shilpur (Ilam–10) to Tilkeni (Ilam–8) is also obstructed, according to the District Police Office, Ilam.

Likewise, the Tamor Corridor connecting Dharan in Sunsari to Mulkghat in Dhankuta and onward to Panchthar and Taplejung has been blocked due to floods.

At the Nawa Khola section along the Tamor Corridor bordering Panchthar and Dhankuta, the water level has risen significantly, halting all vehicle movement.
