Police mistreated photojournalist Barsha Shah on December 16, 2025 while she was taking photographs of a protest demonstration held in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
The incident occurred while Shah was covering a symbolic protest against the agreement reached between the Gen-Z movement and the government, during which police were detaining demonstrators.
According to journalist Shah, while she was capturing images of the police arresting protesters in front of the Baluwatar gate, police personnel pressured her to delete the photographs. She stated that despite informing the police that she was a journalist and had the right to take photographs in a public place, she was subjected to mistreatment.
The Federation of Nepali Journalists condemned and denounced the mistreatment of a journalist engaged in professional duties with visible press identification through a press release issued on December 17. The statement called upon the concerned authorities to respect the constitutional rights of the press and to ensure that such actions are not repeated.
