A group of unknown assailants attacked 60-year-old Dharmabahadur Basnet and his 57-year-old wife Madhava Basnet, injuring their noses and subjecting them to mistreatment in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-15.
A group of five to seven individuals reportedly attacked the husband and wife near BP Chowk in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-15 on November 21, injuring their noses with a knife and absconded. Both victims sustained serious injuries to their upper noses and are undergoing treatment at the Rapti Academy of Health Sciences in Ghorahi. Medical professionals have reported their condition to be stable and out of danger. SP Arjun Kumar Timilsina of the District Police Office stated that an investigation is ongoing. Additionally, the CPN (Majority) Dang has taken responsibility for the incident against the Basnet couple, accusing them of exploiting the public through usurious lending practices. Amar Khadka, the district secretary of the party, through a press release on November 21 accepted responsibility for the incident. He mentioned that the Basnet couple was allowed to reform by cutting their noses.
The CPN (Majority) has alleged that the Basnet couple is engaged in illegal lending with exorbitant interest rates, pushing victims to the point of contemplating suicide.
