It’s been 13 years since the incident of Gaur, Rautahat but the victims and their family members are still deprived of justice.
On 21 March 2007, a mass gathering of Madhesi Ratriya Mukti Morcha affiliated to Madhesi Janadhikar Forum and Maoists was organized in the premises of a rice mill in Gaur Municipality-5. During this, there was clash between activists of then Maoists and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum that killed 27 including five females.
The casualties were Ramakant Jaiswal, Narmadheshwor Upadhayaya, Saraswati Uprety, Pratima Khatun, Rekha Pariyar, Prabin Ansari, Dipak Pandey, Ram Sharan Raya Yadav, Usha Thapa Chhetri, Dharmendra Sah, Ram Kaji Karki, Hasta Bahadur Shrestha, Chhate Waiba, Urmila Lo, Govinda Adhikari, Rajan Pokharel, Narayan Dahal. Similarly others who lost their lives were Munal Biswakarma, Rohan Pakhrin, Ujjwal Dahal, Kumar Lo, Jitendra Thapa Magar, Bibindra Magarati, Ratna Bogati, and Purna Shrestha. Two of the deceased were unidentified.
The dead bodies were found in different sites; 11 in Hajam Miniya VDC-2 on the way to Mudwal, two in Belbichhuwa. Four died in Gaur Hospital and two died on the way to Bharatpur.
There were 52 injured in the incident who were transferred to Medical College in Chitwan after primary treatment in Gaur Hospital.
They were attacked by stones, bricks, bamboo sticks and were also set with fire. All the dead were cadres of the Maoists. Three females and eight males who were running to save their life were captured and were sacrificed in front of Temple of Baudhi Devi. According to the witnesses, three women were said to be raped and sacrificed; however report of post mortem deny the claim.
Police rescued 11-12 Maoists cadres when cadres of Forum were about to set them on fire spilling kerosene on their bodies in Gaur Muncipality-9. No one involved in the incident were brought in legal frame.
On the 13th year since the incident the victimized families are still deprived of justice. This shows the prevalence of impunity.
