An incident of inflicting corporal punishment on 14 students in Bhanu Elementary School at Runtigadhi Rural Municipality-8 by 26 years old Laxmi Pun has been made public. The victim’s party have lodged complaint at Area Police Office of Holeri against the teacher on June 2.
At least 14 students were injured after the teacher inflicted a punishment to them on charge of being late in the school. Among them five students sustained fractured hands and receiving treatment at Tulsipur Sahara Polyclinic. Bhim Kumari Bantha, Nirmala Pun, Gauri Gharti, Shanta Nepali and Bimala Roka are seriously injured in an incident. Their hands are swelling due to the beating and have joint problem according to the hospital source.
Similarly, Prem Pun, Shantosh Budhamagar, Deepa Bantha, Bir Bahadur Gharti, Aruna Pun, Sushila B.K, Bipana Gharti, Man Kumari Gharti and Purnakali Gharti sustained minor injuries. One of the student Nara Bahadur Gharti of standard 3 sustained ear injury and has hearing difficulties.
The students were severely beaten during assembly by the teacher according to Bhim Kumari Bantha.
The incident was made public lately as it was settled within the school in an initation from ward chair Bhim Bahadur Gharti. The incident is under the investigation according to inspector Megh Nath Chapagain.
Teacher Pun has claimed that she punished them to teach discipline and added that she did not thrash them due to any prejudice or anger. “I tried to teach them discipline, and it was a little too much”, she said
