One dies in a police firing, police claims of encounter

One person died in a shootout between police and smugglers at Shankarpur in Siddharthanagar Municipality of Rupandehi district on Saturday night.

Rupandehi police chief SP Hridaya Thapa said the incident occurred at around 12 midnight when the smuggler fired towards the patrolling police team.  Kedar Sahani, 40 of Siddhartha Municipality-6 was killed in an exchange of fire. Police said that the deceased was in a “Most wanted” list of the police as he was involved in various criminal activities according t SP Ridhaya Thapa of DPO. Police said the man, believed to be a 35-year-old Indian national, died while on his way to the hospital. One police personnel was also injured in the shootout.  Police recovered an automatic loaded pistol and a Indian registered motorcycle (UP 53 H2028) from the incident site.
The Deceased had abducted Akash Gurung of Bhairahawa in 2011 and killed him after the family failed to provide him ransom amount. The deceased was involved in various criminal activities according to the police.

The postmortem of his body will be conducted at Bhim Hospital in Bhairahawa.
