A 16 days campaign against the gender violence has begun in Siraha from November 25 with the main slogan of” Gender violence and misbehavior is not acceptable”.
Human Rights Defenders Network and Women Rights Defender Network, Community Police , INSEC , WOREC including many other rights organizations have organized rally and various program in Siraha against the gender violence.
In 1960, three sisters from Mirabell family in Dominican Republic were heinously killed by former autocratic Trujilo government and this incident is taken as a political violence based on gender. In order to give honor to these three sisters Petriya, Minarva and Mariya and against the women violence, 16 days campaign had started according to rights activist De Kumari Mahara.
After the rally, an interaction program on the issue of rape and suicide in the district was discussed.
Speaking at the program, CDO Rudra Prasad Pandit said that solidarity is needed to minimize women violence in our society. He added that dowry practices and child marriage must be eradicated from the society to control women violence.
