Police said that it has commenced a campaign against sexual violence on women in society with the objective to minimize it.
The District Police Office of Kalikot on April 6 during an interaction program said that the campaign against sexual violence has been started. Speaking at the program, DSP Subash Chandra Bohara of DPO said that a new law against crime will be enforced from August and awareness is essential for its effective implementation. He added that support from organizations like INSEC and civil society is needed for the advocacy for creating human rights friendly environment.
District attorney general Uttam Thapa said that most of the sexual violence are not made public or highlighted. He added that only about 20 percent of victims goes for legal remedies whereas 30 percent of them do not have access to justice.
Women and Children Service Center chief Sabita Rana said that most of the incidents are settled within the community before it comes to police office.
