Gen-Z Protest: 57 Police Buildings Damaged in Koshi Province

During the Gen-Z protest on 8 and 9 September against corruption, mismanagement, and social media ban, protesters set fire and vandalized 57 police buildings across various districts of Koshi Province. According to preliminary data from the Koshi Province Police Office in Biratnagar, a total of 57 police buildings in the province were damaged during the protest.

SSP Dipak Pokharel of the Koshi Province Police Office, Biratnagar, stated that during the protest, 24 police buildings were completely destroyed, while 33 buildings suffered partial damage. He added that the police are currently collecting data only on the damaged buildings. SSP Pokharel stated that authorities are in the process of collecting details on the damage to furniture, computers, documents, and other physical assets in the buildings. The police buildings which are most affected are in Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari, with 22 buildings damaged in Jhapa, 18 in Morang, and 14 in Sunsari. During the protest, unknown assailants also damaged 84 police vehicles, of which 79 are completely inoperable. The remaining five vehicles can be put back into service after repairs.

Among the damaged vehicles, eight are heavy vehicles. Additionally, 22 light vans used by the police were completely destroyed along with 54 motorcycles. During the protest, 114 police officers in Koshi Province were injured during attacks. Of the injured, six are still undergoing treatment, three of whom are in serious condition, including one receiving care in the ICU.

During clashes with police in the Gen-Z protest, 46 individuals were injured across the province. Although several police stations under the district were displaced during the demonstrations, authorities are now working to fully reinstate them. Protesters also damaged 12 traffic police buildings, including the Provincial Traffic Police Office in Itahari.
