On 9 September, Gen Z protests escalated across the major cities of all eight districts in Madhesh Province. During the demonstrations, protesters vandalized and set fire to both public and private properties. According to INSEC Dhanusha representative Santosh Kumar Yadav, protesters set fire to the residence of CPN-UML central secretary and former minister Raghubir Mahaseth, located in Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-9. Similarly, in Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-1, Mills Area, the residence of Nepali Congress leader Bimlendra Nidhi was also targeted. Police Inspector Ayodhi Prasad Yadav of the Railway Station Police Post reported that a Honda Shine motorcycle (registration no. Ja 3 Pa 9438) parked at Nidhi’s residence was destroyed in the blaze.
In Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-14, Rajoul, protesters vandalized the residence of Nepali Congress leader Mahendra Yadav, removing belongings from the house and setting them on fire. Likewise, in Thapachowk-9, protesters vandalized and set fire at the Madhesh Province Committee Office of the Nepali Congress. Furniture and other items from the office were dragged outside onto the street and set ablaze. Similarly, protesters set fire to the Madhesh Provincial Assembly building, the Chief Minister’s Office, and ministerial quarters. Dozens of government vehicles parked at the provincial ministry premises were also torched. In addition, the protesters set fire to the office building of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City and the office building of Bideha Municipality.
In Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-14, Mujeliya, protesters set fire to vehicles parked at the Transport Office as well as to the office chief’s quarters. At the Janakpur Customs Office, motorcycles, jeeps, trucks, clothing, food supplies, and furniture inside the premises were torched. Likewise, in Ward No 10 of Janakpurdham, protesters set fire to the living quarters of police personnel at the Janaki Police Post. Protesters also set fire to the Traffic Office in Janakpur. Following the onset of vandalism at government offices, the District Administration Office of Dhanusha imposed a curfew from 3:00 p.m. on 9 September to 7:00 a.m. on 10 September. However, the protesters violated the curfew and continued their demonstrations.
According to INSEC Saptari representative Nabin Yadav, protestors vandalized the offices of the Janata Samajwadi Party and Janamat Party in Rajbiraj Municipality-4. In addition, the Rajbiraj Municipality office building in Ward No. 4 was attacked, and two Scorpios, two motorcycles, and one tractor parked on the premises were set on fire. Similarly, at the District Court in Rajbiraj, Ward No. 7, two government vehicles were torched and damaged, along with stone-pelting on the premises. The District Coordination Committee office in Ward No. 7 also suffered vandalism and arson, affecting one bus and one Scorpio vehicle on site. Similarly, protesters vandalized the District Forest Division Office, the Revenue Office, and the Land Revenue Office of Rajbiraj Municipality-7, including stone-pelting and property damage. In addition, the Urban Development and Building Construction Project Office in Ward No. 7 was vandalized, and five Scorpios along with six motorcycles were set on fire.
In Rajbiraj Municipality-8, protesters vandalized and set fire to the CPN-UML party office. Similarly, in Ward No. 5, protesters pelted stones at the residence and vehicle of former Education Minister Umesh Yadav.
According to INSEC Siraha representative Durga Pariyar, protesters set fire to government offices in the district headquarters of Siraha and Lahan. In the afternoon, they set fire at the records branch of the District Court. Earlier, the protesters set fire to the Survey Office, Inland Revenue Office, and District Attorney’s Office near Ghantaghar in Lahan Municipality-8. They also vandalized and set fire to the Division Forest Office and the Cottage and Small Industries Office. The Cottage and Small Industries Office building, along with a motorcycle (registration no. Ba 1 Ba 8998), was set on fire. Additionally, the protesters pelted stones at the Police Post and District Traffic Police Office located along the East-West Highway in Lahan Municipality-1. Meanwhile, at the warehouse of the Food Management and Trade Company Limited in Lahan Municipality-1, located along the East-West Highway, protesters looted sugar and rice. According to an employee, in addition to looting, the office’s four-wheeled vehicle and the office building were set on fire.
Protesters also vandalized the residence of CPN-UML federal MP and former minister Lilanath Shrestha, who hails from Choharwa, as well as the home of his brother, Shyamkumar Shrestha, Mayor of Golbazar Municipality. Additionally, the residence of Madhesh Province Health and Population Minister Shatrudhan Prasad Singh in Golbazar Municipality-6 was set on fire by protesters. Protesters set fire to and vandalized ward offices in Lahan, Mirchaiya Municipality, Naraha, and Bhagwanpur Rural Municipality. According to Mamata Bishwakarma from Mahottari, on the evening of 9 September, Gen Z protesters set fire to the Pawan Mithila Hotel located at the main square of Bardibas Municipality-14. The hotel’s accountant, Pradip Mahato,40, was seriously injured in the blaze. Mahato was immediately taken to the local Subha Swastik Hospital for initial treatment, the Bardibas Police Post reported. As his condition worsened, he was later transferred to Kathmandu for further medical care, as per Mahottari’s DSP Sarbendra Kumar Bhatta. Although peaceful protests continued throughout the day in the district headquarters of Jaleshwar, the situation turned uncontrollable in the evening, DSP Sarbendra Kumar Bhatta of the District Police Office reported. Due to the protesters’ mob vandalizing the Jaleshwar Jail, Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Rijal stated that 576 inmates escaped from the facility. Protesters vandalized the residence of Madhesh Province Physical Infrastructure Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav in Bardibas, and also caused damage to the building of Pipra Rural Municipality.
According to INSEC Sarlahi representative Budhan Shah, protesters set fire to Lalbandi Municipality Office in the morning, including the office premises and a backhoe parked there. Similarly, protesters vandalized and set fire to areas including the park at Nawalpur Chowk. The demonstrators also fired and vandalized the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML party offices in Malangwa, the district headquarters, and damaged the District Administration Office. Police reported that 28-year-old Chandan Kumar Singh and 21-year-old Bikki Jaiswal were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the vandalism. Protesters also carried out vandalism in Malangwa, Harivan, Barahathwa, and Ishwarpur municipalities. Damage was reported at the Malangwa Agriculture Knowledge Center and the district prison as well.




According to INSEC Rautahat representative Gauri Neupane, during the Gen Z protests, demonstrators set fire to a vehicle at the Chandranigahpur Police Post. After the protesters began demonstrating by surrounding the police post, the police fired dozens of rounds into the air and deployed tear gas. Rupa Labung, Chief and Deputy Superintendent of Police at Chandranigahpur Police Post, stated that restraint was exercised to prevent the protest from turning violent.
According to INSEC Parsa representative Tulsi Bhandari, protesters set fire to all vehicles within the premises of Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Office. They also vandalized Narayani Hospital. In addition, the protesters targeted multiple locations in Birgunj, including the Metropolitan City Office, party offices of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML in Parsa, the Nepal Telecom office at Ghantaghar, the Tax Office in Hariharwa, and the residences of several political leaders: former Water Resources Minister and JSP leader Pradip Yadav in Radhemai, former Law Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya at Om Ashram, former Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister and CPN-UML leader Rajkumar Gupta at Om Ashram, the Nepal Police post at Ghantaghar, the police post in Maisthan, Mayor Rajeshman Singh’s residence in Pragatinagar, former Madhesh Province Chief Minister Mohammad Lalbabu Raut’s residence, and Nepali Congress leader Anil Rugat’s house at Powerhouse. All these locations were subjected to vandalism and arson.
