In light of the prevailing critical situation, the Nepali Army has issued an appeal to maintain peace and security across the country, noting that prohibitory orders and curfews have been imposed nationwide. In the appeal issued on 10 September, the Nepal Army expressed deep regret over the damage to life and property during the protests. It also appealed to everyone for cooperation in efforts to control criminal activities.
The appeal states that, under the guise of the protests, there remains a potential for various disruptive groups to infiltrate and carry out activities including the vandalism and arson of private and public property, looting, targeted violent attacks, and attempted sexual abuse. Considering the overall peace and security situation in the country, it has been announced that prohibitory orders will remain in effect nationwide until 5:00 pm on 10 September, with a curfew in place until 6:00 am on 11 September. Nepal Army has further indicated that additional updates will be issued following a thorough assessment of the situation.
During the period of prohibitory orders and curfew, vehicles such as ambulances, hearse vehicles, fire engines, those carrying health workers, and security personnel will be allowed to operate. The Nepal Army’s appeal also states that any protests, vandalism, looting, arson, or attacks targeting individuals or property carried out in the name of the movement will be treated as punishable offenses, and strict action will be taken by security personnel. It has urged all citizens not to follow rumors and to rely solely on official information and communications. The appeal further states that the Army is confident that everyone will continue to fulfill their respective responsibilities to maintain normalcy in daily life while upholding national unity and social harmony.
