Curfew Imposed in Morang, Fire Reported at UML Party Office in Jhapa

As the Gen Z protest escalated in various areas of Biratnagar Sub-Metropolitan City for the second day, the District Administration Office has imposed a curfew. To control the ongoing protests and the intense situation the District Administration Office, Morang, issued a curfew in Biratnagar Sub-Metropolitan City from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM on 9 September. The order issued by Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav states that the curfew has been imposed as it is essential to maintain public safety, peace, and order.

The District Security Committee, anticipating the possibility of anti-social and violent activities in various locations including Biratnagar Metropolitan City, decided to implement the curfew. The curfew will be enforced in Biratnagar Metropolitan City from Nepal Rastra Bank in the east to Koshi Hospital Chowk in the west, and from Biratnagar JCIC Hall in the north to Gaurav Hospital in the south. It will also cover areas on both the north and south sides of the Koshi Highway, including Shantinagar, Birtol Chowk, Birtol Temple, and the surroundings of Shantinagar Chowk. Additionally, the curfew extends to areas around the Provincial Chief’s Office, the Provincial Assembly building, within 200 meters of the Provincial Chief’s residence, and within 2 meters of the ICP.

The District Administration urges citizens to stay indoors during the curfew.

It is reported that the CPN-UML office in Birtamod, Jhapa, was set on fire on 9 September.

The UML party office was vandalized on 8 September. In Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City, the Gen Z youth have been participating in protests under an indefinite curfew since 23 Bhadra. According to INSEC representative Suresh Khatri, the Gen Z youth announced that the protest on 9 September would begin from the birthplace of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Aathrai Rural Municipality-4, Iwa.
