Police arrested Taradevi Khatri, 32, from Piple, Aathrai Rural Municipality-7, on September 1 for caste-based discrimination against Alisha Bishwakarma,22, of the same place on August 27. Inspector Rajababu Thakur of the District Police Office stated that the accused was taken into custody for investigation after the victim’s side filed a complaint on September 1.
The victim alleges that on August 27 at Namjang Basic School in Namjang, Aathrai Rural Municipality-7, the accused subjected her to caste-based discrimination by saying that others would not eat the food touched by her. In an interview with INSEC representatives, accused Taradevi Khatri, stated that she usually ate with Alisha but on August 27 had only asked her to sit slightly apart from the kitchen area.
On August 29, the Caste System Eradication Front issued a statement condemning the Principal for alleged caste-based discrimination, followed by the Sanghiya Limbuwan Jatiya Munch on August 30 and the Aathrai Sachet Nagarik Samaj on August 31.
