Flood-Displaced Victims Forced to Lead a Difficult Life

Due to the heavy rainfall over the past four days, flooding has displaced 59 families in Kanchanpur, affecting 218 people who are now forced to endure a difficult life. Among the displaced, pregnant and postpartum women, elderly citizens, and children are facing difficulties. With electricity services disrupted, local residents have also been cut off from communication networks, according to DSP Sagar Bohara of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur.

As the water level of the Jogbudha River, which flows through Dodhara Chandani, rose and breached the embankment, several areas of Dodhara Chandani Municipality were affected. When the river overflowed into the village, around 70 residents from approximately 25 households in Ward No. 8, Rampure Tapu and Jarga Tol, were relocated to Janjyoti Secondary School. Similarly, 55 residents from 15 households in Patarakhalla Tol, Ward No. 3, have been relocated to Jamuna Basic School. In Dodhara Chandani Municipality, 23 kept at the Armed Police Force (BOP) Sundarnagar in Ward No. 10 have been moved to Omkar Secondary School, 30 at the Armed Police Force (BOP) Kanchabhoj in Ward No. 7 have been relocated to the urban vaccination center building, and 40 from 12 households in Shanti Tol have been moved to Ambika Secondary School for safety.

Due to flooding, the buffalo shed of Jayanti Bohara in Tallo Gobariya, Ward No. 15, Bhimdatta Municipality, has been destroyed. The flood has additionally affected Sensorial School and has also disrupted education.

For the rescue and management of those affected by the floods, a police team under the leadership of SP Khadkabhadur Khatri of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, has been deployed. Residents from high-risk areas have been urged to relocate to safer locations, according to Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal. The Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have deployed teams across the district to manage disasters and conduct rescue operations. They have relocated residents from high-risk riverbank areas, including Wards 11, 12, and 13 of Bhimdatt Municipality, to safer locations. Rescue teams continue to operate, and local authorities, security agencies, and relief organizations remain on high alert, according to Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal.
