Radha Bhattarai, 32, a resident of Barahakshetra Municipality–6 in Sunsari, an inmate at the District Prison in Morang was found dead on the morning of 27 August. She was found hanging inside the toilet of her cell. According to jailer Gaurav Dhungel, she had been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Sunsari District Court on a killing case. She had been held at Morang Jail since 19 January 2024, and the court had given her the verdict on 23 October 2024.
Bhattarai had jumped into the Saptakoshi River canal along with her two minor children. She and one of her children were rescued, but the other child died, after which she was charged in a killing case. Jailer Gaurav Dhungel stated that she had been suffering from depression.
